C ‘est la première fois — depuis la création du prix en 1971 — qu’un auteur reçoit deux fois le Prix Costa.
Sebastian Barry, l’auteur irlandais a réussi la performance pour son nouveau roman : Days Without End, un roman historique qui se passe en America dans les années 1850.
Il avait déjà reçu le prix en 2008 pour The Secret Scripture.

Dans ce nouveau roman, nous retrouvons Thomas McNulty qui quitte le Sligo pour refaire sa vie en Amérique.
C’est la grande aventure qui fit l’histoire de toute une nation, des bateaux-cercueil (coffin-shops) à la grande aventure américaine. Sebastian Barry nous raconte l’histoire d’un continent, et ces chapitres sont de grands tableaux humains. Sa plume se fait pinceau et  l’âme humain y est décrite à la loupe.
