Set in the Brigadoon-like atmosphere of Doolin, Co Clare – between the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher and the Aran islands – the Doolin Folk Festival is fast becoming a highlight of the Irish Summer festival season. Taking inspiration from the legendary TRAD Festivals of the 70’s and 80’s like Lisdoonvarna, the Festival is an intense musical adventure. Tucked away in the magical atmosphere of West Clare, you’ll be whisked off on a musical journey through folktime, style and culture.
The beauty of The Doolin Folk Festival is that its modest size allows for a unique atmosphere, presenting music in an intimate setting and ensuring that audiences and musicians can feel at one and enjoy the communal spirit of such festivals.
Tickets are limited and the last three editions have been sell-outs.
Festival Programmer Conor Byrne explains, “Our audience at The Doolin Folk festival know their music, it is truly a music lover’s festival, so there is great pressure to deliver each year and we certainly hope we have delivered with this 2017 line-up. As well as some big hitters from the Irish TRAD and folk music scene, including internationally acclaimed artist, Lisa Hannigan, super-group ALTAN, and the collaboration of Duke Special and ULAID, this years line-up also features international luminaries such as Mali’s Vieux Farka Touré, described as ‘The Hendrix of the Sahara” , and Quebec’s acclaimed ‘Le Vent Du Nord’.
Conor is passionate about the importance of celebrating local talent, “We are very excited to have Ennistymon natives, Steve & Joe Wall return with their band The STUNNING, who have been rocking the nation for over twenty years, and no doubt this sort of homecoming will be a great occasion for all present.” Another world-renowned local making an appearance will be Sharon Shannon, “We’re delighted to welcome back Sharon who continues to amaze audiences worldwide with her incredible music.”
In 2017 the Doolin Folk Festival promises to continue its musical diversity, with a broad mixed programme of acclaimed artists and the full line up is:
